How to Sell Ice to Eskimos 175 selling skills you should know eBook Graham Watkins Reviews

As the title suggests, the book is all about developing selling skills. Rather than describe the processes in detail, Graham skillfully condenses key messages and tips into itemized lists.

This easily readable format should appeal to time constrained sales people and business executives looking to fine tune their sales and marketing skills.
This book is well written and easy to read with really useful selling techniques and strategies from someone that has made a career from sales.
    This is a fantastic book!
Well written and easy to read with really useful selling techniques and strategies.
This book is a must for everyone in the business of selling.
    Highly recommended read.
This is a gem of an e-book. It’s concise and to the point so the reader can easily read and get to the crux of how to make a sale without all the waffle some over-egged books employ.

I particularly love how the author initially set about by introducing ‘Eleven important things you need to know and do before you start selling’, so the reader’s time isn’t wasted to begin with. He gets straight into the action.

I also think this book is unique in its approach as the author encourages the salesman to actually listen to the customer. This is a thought often overlooked by sales people as they use their patter and wade in without a thought for how the customer actually feels, which is often bombarded with too much information.

In all my years as a counsellor, what I learned most was that people need to be listened to and understood above everything else. The author has taken the listening approach and used it to good effect. Watkins also stresses the importance of body language, i.e. non verbal body language. Often what is not being said by the customer is more important than what’s being said during a potential sale. So he advises how to watch and observe for any little details that show whether the customer is really interested or not. Does their body language match what they say or belie it?

The author explains the importance of watching for ‘buying signals’. As the author says, ‘Miss buying signals and you miss losing the order!’ In other words, the customer might be saying one thing but if you miss his body language, you would have realised he or she was saying something else entirely!

Graham Watkins' approach to selling in this book is easy-to-read and informative and what’s more, the techniques really work. The author’s had the experience and made the sales to prove it! He conveys a comprehensive, easy-to-understand approach that builds on customer confidence. The author speaks from personal experience as a salesman employing all he’s learned along the way. There are lots of tips that will help improve your selling skills in this informative jewel of a book!
Having read this book, I believe, it should be compulsory reading for anyone in sales, interested in upping their game and selling more. Sales Managers, who are building high performance order taking teams out of ordinary folk, as we all have to do, would do well to give each member a copy and tell them to learn every chapter by heart. Take, for example, chapter twelve, 'Buying Signals' which explains when to close without turning the customer off. It explodes the myths and nonsense, written elsewhere, about reading a buyers mind, is a joy to read and dovetails beautifully with the next chapter, 'Closing the Sale,' in itself, an eye opener for those who are still learning their trade and a useful reminder for all of us in the business of selling. The chapter on 'Buyers Secret Weapons' is entertaining. I've not heard the terms 'Geronimo's Scalp' and 'Pavlov's Dog' before but I've had the same tricks used on me, by artful customers and the techniques to get over them, explained in the book, are powerful tools. How to Sell Ice to Eskimos is a, no bulls***, step by step guide to selling that is easy to understand and put into practice.
A very good list of skills all sales people should learn.
The book is simple and short with many valuable tips, this is the first book about sales that i read so i dont know if there are better books out there, but it was recomended by a friend that is a good sales man. I enjoyed reading it very much
