Starting a garden at age 60+ is an adventure. Having no knowledge of gardening makes it an extreme challenge. However, it's a fun and exciting thing to do.
It may have something to do with planting something, nuturing it and watching it grow. You learn the importance of preparing the ground for planting , watering, fighting insects and dealing with the birds.
It's a wonderful, fulfilling time at 530 A.M. drinking a cup of coffee as I water my garden and pull the two or three weeds growing there.

I've had a garden for years and especially enjoy growing herbs. I could really relate to the author getting started with gardening because he wanted to grow his own basil. There's nothing like just plucking herbs from the garden when you need them for that special dish--like basil for pesto!! Anyway, this book is written in a humorous manner; I frequently chuckled. The illustrations were well done. All-in-all George did a great job with his first garden--and with this book. Not a lot of new information, but just a fun look at how one guy grows his first garden. I am not quite the Senior the author is and not ready to publish anything about my age.
This is a wonderful book with the advantage of many illustrations. I love the narratives. The writing seems to make the book more personal and some parts are really funny. The reader never get's bored, at least I didn't.
There is a garden in my future.
An easy read. Short and simple. What I enjoy most about the book is it includes photos of the various herbs and lots of helpful hints on growing said plants. The Author also gives you lots of reference material to follow up on. Would recommend it
This is an easy read book. It is helpful with getting a novice help with how to start a garden. I liked the process of choosing herbs and veggies. I will be looking forward to the follow up book on how they are growing and how the author was able to store what was reaped.
A fun guide to starting your own garden and grow herbs and spices. Loved the colorful photos and the fun description. Would have enjoyed more stories of little failures and successes to prepared the aspiring gardener of what lays in store.
All in all a enjoyable little book.

This is a short simple book about how he grew his garden and what he was thinking when he did it. It does not show how his garden turned out, but I assume there will be a follow up book. There are plenty of pictures and recipes at the end. Even though I know how to grow gardens I did pick up on a couple of new things.
A story of one man's journey into gardening. Not a lot of practical information, but an enjoyable read. As a long time gardener, I appreciate this story as it brings back memories of my first gardening experience.
If you're thinking of taking up gardening, this will give you confidence to jump in and start something new. If you're a seasoned gardener this book will bring back memories of your first garden.
