Manic Mondays An old life a new life a whole load of choices eBook Michaela Weaver Reviews

I really enjoyed this book. I had to keep turning the page to see which way it would go as there were lots of possibilities along the way. Well done and hope there are more books to come from this author.
The story begins with a scenario that so many of us can relate to in this modern world and then goes on to tell of how our heroine deals with what life has thrown at her. I liked this book and the concept of each chapter being a new week in the life of..... I did want to know what was going to happen next and then read far more in one sitting than i expected to. I found it very easy to read, and could relate to the characters effortlessly. A good book to relax with.
Manic Mondays is a contemporary read. Catherine loved Mondays, she loved going back to work when most of the nation hated returning to work on a Monday. She loved being Managing Director of Marketing Matrix. But all that changed one Monday in August.

Husband and business partner James left Catherine and their baby daughter to shack up with the cleaner. At 36 years old he said he needed at break from them both. Shocked to the core Catherine runs away to the city. Alone and seriously depressed, each day is an uphill trudge.

Neighbour Grace has two young children and her own set of problems. Long- standing friend Steve reaches out a supporting arm when he's not flying. But it's Mike Stone who helps Catherine find a place at Dolly Daydreams Nursery for baby Maddy and then a part-time job at the University. He'd also like to get to know Catherine better, but she doesn't want a relationship with a married man.

As the months pass Catherine builds her confidence and makes new friends. She buys a new house and gets a full-time job with a big marketing firm called Sirius, but James realises the mistake he's made and wants her back. Should she go back to him? Maddy needs her Dad, or should she stay in her new home carrying on as a single Mum?

A great book about life as a single parent and the responsibilities it brings.

This review is based on a free copy of the book given to me by the author.
Catherine is left holding the baby in this fun novel which sees her having to start again with a new life back in town. After her husband makes the decision to go off with the cleaner after she spends too much time making their business a success to give him the attention he needs she leaves with her daughter Madeleine for rented accommodation and a new job. Making friends along the way she realises she can cope without him and despite the feelings still being there she can’t get passed his betrayal. She literally bumps in to Mike and he seems keen to date her but, as he is the dad of one of Madeleine’s nursery friends, she rejects him as she has no interest in going out with a married man.

I thought this was a great novel, one to curl up with which is exactly what I did. I finished it in one sitting! There is a nice lot of humour in there and it will certainly appeal to those who have lived the life of a single mum with all the difficulties that entails. From babysitters to bosses who aren’t interested in a woman’s family life getting in the way of their business to the stigma of being seen as a desperate single mother, Catherine has to deal with it all. A well written debut.
In her old life, Catherine thought she was doing everything right, happily married, raising a daughter and the owner of a very successful marketing business. After her husband announces he wants out and wants to be with someone else, she is devastated. She walks away from her home and the business and she and her daughter start over in a new town. In her new life, she meets new friends and pursues new career options while trying to steer clear of Mike, a man she realizes she is attracted to, but is holding at arm’s length because of the wedding ring on his finger.

I really enjoyed this story. I admired Catherine for picking up the pieces of her life and finding the strength to move forward after having her life crash down around her ears. I really liked supporting characters Grace, Steve and Mike. They brought their own stories and personalities to the book without pulling me out of the main story. I felt a lot of empathy for Catherine for the way her husband treated her and applauded her strength of character and the determination she shows to start over. There weren’t any laugh out loud moments for me in this book, but the struggles Catherine experienced with facing her husband once again, finding a new career path and opening herself up to love again made this book thoroughly enjoyable.

Michaela Weaver pens a very good story that flows smoothly, keeping the reader engaged with characters that are easy to relate to and connect with. This is my first book by this author and look forward to reading more of her work.
